New treatment for depression: brain pacemakers.

The website ECanada.com reports that it may be possible that brain pacemakers can be used to treat depression. It explains that the “pacemakers are actually tiny chips that can be implanted into the brain to deliver a small shock. The shocks, known as deep brain stimulation has been proven effective in some cases of Parkinson’t disease and researchers claim the same chip may also cure such mental illnesses as depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders”.

Gather News.com adds that “the treatment is known as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), and doctors have successfully used to help stop the symptoms of Parkinson’s”.

The treatment is not ready yet but this has been a big step towards the find of best treat for each psychiatric disease.
