Job burnout.
In this day it is common to feel a lot of stress in our workplace because all of the tasks that we need to accomplished. But it seems there are ways of relieve this tension and this stress. First, we need to know the most common causes of this type of stress. According to CNN.com they are:
- Too many job demands.
- Unclear demands.
- Long hours.
- Lack of recognition.
- Unrealistic employer expectations.
- Lack of guidance.
- Frequently shifting directions (stopping and starting tasks).
- Boredom.
- Aiming for perfection.
Deborah Brown-Volkman of East Moriches, New York., a career coach and author of "How to Feel Great at Work Every Day," gave CNN.com a few tips to start dealing with this issue. They are:
- Looking at your list of stressors, brainstorm (and then implement) specific actions that could rectify the situation.
- Limit distractions by closing the office door and stopping yourself from constantly checking e-mail and voice mail.
- Examine your typical day and see if there are tasks you could delegate, safely say "no" to or discard.
- Once again, don't ignore how stressors outside the workplace may be contributing to what you are labeling as office burnout.
- Likewise, don't ignore yourself.
Randall S. Hansen, Ph.D. shares some advices too for deal with job stress. They are:
- Modify your job situation. If you really like your employer, but the job has become too stressful (or too boring), ask about tailoring your job to your skills.
- Get time away. If you feel the stress building, take a break.
- Fight through the clutter. Taking the time to organization your desk or workspace can help ease the sense of losing control that comes from too much clutter.
- Talk it out. Sometimes the best stress-reducer is simply sharing your stress with someone close to you.
- Cultivate allies at work.
- Find humor in the situation.
- Have realistic expectations. Having unrealistic expectations for what you can accomplish sets you up for failure -- and increased stress.
- Nobody is perfect. Change your motto to performing your best, and leave perfection to the gods.
- Maintain a positive attitude (and avoid those without one). Negativism sucks the energy and motivation out of any situation, so avoid it whenever possible.
Now you don’t have any excuse for not starting to deal with it!
