During the “XVIII Psychiatric Updated Course”, celebrated in early march in Victoria, Spain, came out that for 2030 depression will be the second cause of incapacity, after AIDS. The professor of psychiatric of the University of Basque Country, Miguel Gutiérrez, argued that 15% of the population suffers from a depressive disorder during their lifetime.
It has also been reported that consults for depression have increased a 20% after the crisis. Insomnia and anxiety are the main symptoms presented by patients after the loss of a job. Other symptoms are stress, sadness and depression.
Doctors in primary health attention have detected since a year ago an increase in the number of patients with adjustment disorders that are surging as a result of the economic crisis. These patients are being referred to specialist in Psychiatry in the Mental Health Centers.
